Emergency Dental Care

If you or a loved one has fallen and/or suffered injuries, call 911 and go directly to the emergency room.

Mobile Dentistry of Arizona takes DENTAL emergency calls 7 days per week. A true dental emergency is:

Severe swelling of the face or jawline:

This may be a serious infection which can cause severe swelling near the eye, the upper or lower jaw, or on the neck, and may be accompanied by a fever, ear ache, or sore throat. A serious oral infection can spread to other areas of the body and can become life threatening if left untreated.

Severe pain of the mouth or face:

Decayed teeth and gum ulcers can cause pain. If a person is not able to tell you about pain, there are several ways you can determine it with non-verbal signs. Noticeable changes in a person’s behavior, changes in eating habits, or rubbing at the face may all indicate oral conditions that need immediate attention.

Heavy bleeding from the mouth or gums; possibly due to a fall or post-surgical treatment:

After surgical treatment, bleeding can be expected for up to 24 hours. You may try having the patient bite down on a gauze pad. It is also helpful to apply a wet tea bag (like Lipton) on an extraction site and apply biting pressure for 15 – 20 minutes. If bleeding seems heavy, have the patient lie with their head and feet elevated and apply an ice pack only over the treated area.

If there is any concern about bleeding, please call us at 480-313-3310.

Trauma/Ebulsion of a tooth due to a fall or accident:

Getting the person to an emergency room to check for broken bones or other injuries may precede dental care. If a tooth is broken, or out, please call our office as soon as convenient for an appointment at 480-313-3310.

Many dental emergencies are due to abscesses which cannot always be immediately treated without first reducing the infection with antibiotic therapy. Please call our office so that we may arrange for that treatment to begin for you.

Broken dentures, broken teeth, loose teeth, trouble chewing, sore mouth, bad breath, etc are not “emergencies” but are conditions that should be treated as soon as possible to avoid more serious consequences.
